Hubble space telescope image of M87

M87 is the biggest and in that sense perhaps the greatest galaxy of our sector of the universe.  Our galaxy and thousands of others are part of a Virgo supercluster.  M87 is at the heart of this galaxy supercluster.

  Our galaxy is at the outer edge of the Virgo supercluster.

This image is one of Hubbles first and still one of it's greatest.  There's still plenty of great pictures from Hubble though!

Carthage is also home to Sait Augustine like a hundred plus years later(350-430) who had a few slips of the tongue with regard to the true origin of Jesus Christ(a sungod; christianity is just astrotheology). On somewhat related note, Iraneous lived in France.  Seems interesting to me that so much of the church fathers(who almost certainly did a lot of the writings of the gospels and even Pauline epistles; we know a good amount of them were later forgeries) were in far away regions of the Roman empire!  I guess only away from critical eyes could they have forged the christ conspiracy.

astro picture for the day

ESO picture of the large star factory in the large magellanic cloud.  The LMC is one of two dwarf galaxies that are being gravitationaly taken in by our Milky way galaxy.  Recently, astronomers have realized that they are just part of what they are now calling a magellanic stream.  As the Milky Way gravitationaly interacts with this stream, it will create more star bursts which we'll call irregular galaxies.
